A Polka Dot Playroom

When our clients first reached out to us, they were looking to add room function and style to their son and daughter’s playroom. The room was filled with plenty of toys but lacked any organization or function. The playroom is located on the main floor of their home and is the first room you see off the foyer when you first walk in. They really wanted some direction on how they could transform the room to be a fun & functional space for the kiddos while also making it aesthetically pleasing.

We first established function and organization with a storage unit that has open shelving. We were able to store away all those books, toys, and crafts that were once lying on the floor and placed them into baskets within the storage unit. We installed book shelving for storing additional books. The children can still easily access their toy collection now minus all the clutter. Win win for both the kids and parents!

In addition to creating a spot for storing toys, we designated a few different play areas within this space including a craft station with the cutest table & chair set, dress up station with wall hooks and a reading & lounging station. Each designated space within the room offers the kids plenty of storage in an organized way.

The kids now have a beautifully neutral patterned play mat that provides ample surface space for playtime. The mat lies beneath the coziest plush bean bag chairs for lounging in. The bean bags are personalized with the children’s names and even have a pocket for more book storage! Above the bean bag chairs, we installed a picture ledge shelf where our clients plan to personalize with family photos. We were also able to utilize the picture shelf for hanging the daughter’s beautiful artwork off of a beaded garland!

We went with neutral furnishings and a muted multi-color palette for accents throughout. I am loving the polka dot decals and it really ties the muted color palette together. Not only did it add style, but it was such a breeze to apply to the walls! It adds so much color and playfulness to the room.

From a room that was previously filled with clutter and toy chaos to now a fun, functional and stylish space for an adorable brother and sister to share!
