A Mid-Century Modern Playroom

This functional and stylish playroom was designed for my client who just recently had a major remodel makeover done to the first floor of her rancher-style home. Since the remodel, the home has gotten a completely new, fresh look with elements of Mid Century Modern throughout. This room enters into a large open concept that you can view from multiple rooms, including the entryway into the home. So we wanted to make sure the room was a sophisticated showstopper from the entryway while still functioning as a playful and fun space for our client’s little boy.

We kept the mid-century modern vibe flowing into the playroom by incorporating the modern shapes and styles into the furnishings that were sourced. We wanted to add in more of an edge to the standard cubby unit and activity table with a sleek, rich wood, and tapered leg style. We kept the paint color, window treatments, and play mat neutral so they flow with the rest of the home.

To bring in some depth and color, we added in pops of dark blue, ochre, and rust in some of the furnishings and accent decor pieces. The colorful abstract piece of artwork over the toy storage unit in particular brings in a vibrant and energetic feel to the space. We made sure to showcase our mini client’s favorite passions which is why you might see a bit of a car, helicopter, and space theme going on :) The lit acrylic moon above the activity table is my personal favorite and perfect for any space-loving-child!

In addition to all the thoughtfully curated decor elements, we also made sure that this space was extra functional. We created zones within the playroom to include a play zone, reading and lounging zone, and crafting & building zone for independent play. We absolutely love the hidden built-in wall storage that the contractors had installed. The shelves are deep and was a fantastic hidden storage solution for our mini client’s crafts, play-doh, board games, and more! We placed these items in clear storage bins with labels, making it super easy and quick for mom to access.

The combination of mid-century modern elements mixed with all the playful touches creates a perfect balance between fun and sophisticated style. We are looking forward to completing the rest of styling projects for a few other rooms of this beautiful home. Stay tuned for more!
